Not far from Rome is a famous city considered the birthplace of the Renaissance period, Florence, and it is considered by Forbes magazine as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
By taking a trip here your family will enjoy learning about its history, culture, architecture, and art. It is a perfect destination for a daytrip excursion to include during your Italy vacation.
You can reach Florence by fast train from Rome. It is a 75 minutes trip! In Florence a great specalized local guide will meet you to start the passeggiata (walk) through the heart of the historic city center. We can also arrange a van tranfser from Rome to Florence for you but the driving can take from 2.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic!
In Florence we will visit the famous places such as the Duomo, the Baptistery, Piazza della Repubblica, and the Ponte Vecchio - a medieval stone bridge and the only bridge that was spared from the bombings of WWII. It is now famous for its many jewelers and art dealers in the shops located on the bridge.
We will also see Piazza della Signoria, an open-air gallery of Renaissance statues and Piazza Santa Croce, the location of the Franciscan church of Santa Croce where many famous Italians are buried.
You can also optionally decide if you would like to visit the Galleria dell’Accademia where Michelangelo’s famous sculpture of David is on display along with other carvings and artwork of the artist. This museum is small and the time spent here is only a fraction of the time you will spend in Florence making it a perfect stop with children for seeing one of Michelangelo’s most famous sculptures of all time and learning about the process of how his sculptures were made.
Advanced reservations are required to visit the museum if you would like to include this stop on your tour.
OPTIONAL: you can visit the Uffizi Museums containing Botticelli's Venus and other famous artworks.
